The Goal:
The goal is to stimulate campus-wide discussion of public policy. Dr. Charles F.
Bonser, the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) and the Kelley School
of Business have provided the initial endowment fund for the Distinguished Lecture Series.
The initial funding plus additional contributions will ensure the continuation
of existing
educational opportunities and will allow us to attract notable individuals such as
corporate executives, government leaders, and leading academicians to our campus.
Why Focus on Public Policy?
The modern corporation cannot afford to ignore public policy. Government cannot ignore
the imperatives of successful business. Students and faculty in SPEA and the Kelley School
of Business need to engage the significant issues of public policy in depth in order to
understand how the external environment of public affairs impacts the modern corporation
as interactions between public and private sectors become increasingly frequent and
complex. While the external environment cannot be manipulated on a day-to-day basis, it
can nevertheless be influenced and shaped over time by the combined efforts of both
business and government.
What are the Lectures?
The Distinguished Lectures in Public Policy are designed to bring prominent and
influential figures in academia, business, and politics to SPEA and the Kelley School of
Business to speak on the complex interactions between public policy and business.
Discussions with prominent speakers will enrich both students and research faculty whose
practical knowledge of the great issues will be enhanced.
