As a part of the Institute for Development Strategies' outreach efforts, David
Audretsch and Roy Thurik spoke at the 1999 Summer Institute at the Center for the Study of
Global Change. The institute was held on the IU Bloomington Campus.
Addressing a large group of high school students and faculty, David and Roy addressed
the issue of International Trade and Economics, focusing mainly upon Europe and the
European Union's adoption of the Euro.
In addition, David and Roy spoke for about an hour with a small group of students and
teachers about specific issues within the EU: countries that wish to join; the effects of
the declining value in the Euro; and the roles different nations play.
