Indiana Conflict Resolution Institute
Community Service

The Indiana Conflict Resolution Institute is dedicated to serving its community in the field of conflict resolution – both locally and across the state of Indiana.

Community Conflict Resolution

ICRI plays a key role in the provision of community conflict resolution services in the Bloomington and Monroe County, Indiana area.  Our staff work closely with three conflict resolution service providers in the area: Community Conflict Resolution Program, Inc, the Victim-Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP), and Citizens for Community Justice (CCJ).

Community Conflict Resolution Program, Inc.

ICRI was essential in the formation of the Community Conflict Resolution Program, Inc. (CCRP). ICRI staff members Lisa Bingham and Lisa-Marie Napoli were closely involved in early discussions about building a community mediation program. Efforts were boosted when Lisa Bingham received the Keller-Runden Endowment to fund conflict resolution service endeavors through staff support and in-kind contributions for training scholarships, computer software purchases, and other types of administrative support. With the guidance and support of Bingham and other ICRI staff, and the collaborative efforts of other key professionals in the community, CCRP was launched to provide a variety of conflict resolution services, including mediation, coaching, training, and education. CCRP is almost three years old and is quickly growing in the number of mediations, conflict resolution presentations, and other conflict resolution services it provides.

ICRI also collaborates with the Bloomington Victim Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP). Many ICRI staff are trained, active mediators for the program. In addition, the ICRI Service Director, Lisa-Marie Napoli, is also the Executive Director of CCRP.  This dual-role has enable her to act as a liaison between VORP and CCRP and to develop collaborative efforts such as joint trainings and education seminars for mediators and staff in both programs

Citizens for Community Justice, Inc.

Both CCRP and VORP work under the umbrella of Citizens for Community Justice, Inc (CCJ). All three organizations (CCRP, VORP and CCJ) are working on reorganizing into one larger entity to offer mediation, conflict resolution education, and other conflict resolution services to the local community.  ICRI is playing an important role in assisting with this transformation.

Mediator Training

ICRI supports the mediation trainings conducted by CCRP, VORP, and CCJ with in-kind contributions, coordination and planning efforts, and expertise in design and instruction. ICRI has also been involved in various aspects of specialized mediation trainings such as a 40-hour family mediation training, a one-day race and class workshop, a one-day constructive conflict resolution workshop, and a one-day coaching conflict resolution workshop.

Community Education

In addition to mediation, ICRI has been involved in other conflict resolution education endeavors.  Some ICRI staff worked as trained facilitators in the National Issues Forum held on Bloomington, Indiana. ICRI staff also participated in a Community Dialogue forum on the one-year anniversary of September 11th to enhance discussion about conflict resolution and peace building.  Finally, some ICRI staff work on tailored programs to meet specialized needs for local non-profit organizations to improve conflict resolution skills.

Local Newsletter

ICRI staff members Liberty Bell and Lisa-Marie Napoli create and disseminate a local community conflict resolution newsletter to members and contributors of the Community Conflict Resolution Program, Inc. and other interested parties. The newsletter updates readers on current local activities and upcoming conflict resolution events, such as workshops and trainings in the community.
