Survey of Indiana Mediators There is a growing
profession of dispute resolution providers, including mediators,
arbitrators, facilitators, and other individuals with expertise as
neutrals within in Indiana. These people may work in community dispute
resolution centers, court mediation programs, labor disputes and numerous
other areas of ADR expertise. However, little is known about many of them--their
educational backgrounds, professions, and experience.
To compile this information, the Indiana Conflict Resolution
Institute (ICRI) conducted a survey of these providers. ICRI mailed surveys
to 676 ADR providers in the state of Indiana.
The Institute compiled the list of the 676 Providers from the
Indiana Registry of Civil and Domestic Mediators, the membership lists of
the Indiana chapter of the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution,
and the Indiana State Bar Association Section on Dispute Resolution.
The survey asks questions about the provider’s education
background, services provided, experience, training, and particular areas
of expertise (e.g. labor, environmental, employment). We received 215 completed surveys from ADR Providers. This information has enabled us to obtain a picture of providers, their areas of expertise, and their practices. In addition, we have created a web-searchable database of Indiana providers for the ICRI website so that the public may more easily find Indiana ADR providers with particular expertise or in a particular geographic location. The website also allows Indiana ADR providers to submit surveys to ICRI and have their information added to the searchable database.
