Resources of FASR Institute The FASR Institute has access to outstanding computer support staff and state-of-the-art computing facilities, one of the best libraries collections in the world, and the Indiana University Center for Survey Research. In addition to the FASR Faculty Affiliates, the FASR Institute has a staff including the co-directors, an administrative assistant, two editors, and several research associates and assistants. School of Public and Environmental Affairs The School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) is the third ranked program in public administration in the nation. The school offers ten degrees for undergraduate and graduate students. For over twenty-five years the School of Public and Environmental Affairs has worked to establish an outstanding record of success in creating solutions to public problems. Over twenty thousand School of Public and Environmental Affairs alumni are prepared to face today's challenges and to make a difference. The School of Social Work (SSW) offers B.S.W. and M.S.W. programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and a Ph.D. program. With over eighty years of social work training experience, SSW has a strong commitment to increasing its policy analysis and research capacity, as well as an extensive history of training and research in child welfare, poverty, at-risk populations, juvenile justice, mental health, and neighborhood services. With respect to computing facilities, all FASR staff have access to state-of-the-art desktop computers which are connected to a local network. Thus, the most recent versions of processing software, statistical packages, spreadsheets, graphic programs, communications software, and database management programs are easily accessible. For desktop publishing needs the School of Public and Environmental Affairs employs a full-time graphics artist who is available to the FASR staff. Indiana University is consistently in the forefront of technology for higher education. In order to maintain this standard of excellence, Indiana University received $20 million for further technology advancement in the most current state biennium budget. The School of Public and Environmental Affairs computing staff and University Computing Services provide on-site assistance and troubleshooting for the FASR Institute. Indiana University has an outstanding library system with approximately five million items including texts and academic journals. The main library system has an entire floor devoted to government documents. Indiana University has served as a depository for US government documents for over 100 years and consequently the federal document collection is extensive, numbering over a million items. Moreover, the Library has a staff that concentrates specifically on public policy and political science issues. The School of Public and Environmental Affairs also maintains its own library, which includes 100,000 policy relevant texts and 1,000 journals. The on-line search capabilities of the Indiana University libraries are extensive and readily accessible. The library facilities at IUPUI include an extensive collection of texts and journals related to social welfare policies and programs. The Center for Survey Research (CSR) is a University-wide research facility of Indiana University. The Center conducts mail and telephone surveys for Indiana University faculty and administration, federal, state, and local government agencies and has other research projects throughout the country. The Center provides the management, staff, and facilities required to conduct all phases of telephone and mail surveys. The Center's staff assists researchers in formulating questions and designing questionnaires as needed. The Center employs individuals trained in all aspects of survey research: questionnaire design, sampling, interviewing, conducting focus groups, coding, data entry, and data analysis. |
