Things to talk
about at Mass Meeting: Introduction to ASPS, building tour, gives codes to
rooms, getting an email account, the ASPS listserv, the fall picnic, the
professional workshops, coffee hours/social hours, bakesale, fill out
information forms, encouraging them to submit papers to student conference

All ASPS members who can attend are encouraged to do so

Rob to publicize
the Happy Hour to asps_all
v
Deepali has the
list of new students—many of them are MPA students or came from other programs
and campus and might not need mentoring as much, Deepali will whittle down the list
to those coming from other schools and then she will submit the list to
asps_all and ask for volunteers to be mentors
v
Carol is updating
her records of all the students contact information and she will pass the list
on to Becky before school starts…Becky will then compile it into a student
directory and put a copy in everyone’s mailbox and leave a copy in the lounge
v
The picnic will
be from 3-6 on August 20th—Rob will email Carol and ask her to
change it on the orientation schedule

the flyer out to the all the students

We’re planning on
having around 50 people there

the flyers and put them in people’s mailboxes and post one in the lounge

David says that
we need coolers—Maxine says that there are some locked away in the cage that we
can possible use—ask JC’s students for the keys—they also have ice down there

David says that
he will be getting a couple people to help with shopping a week before the
picnic

ASPS members are
encouraged to talk about the picnic and publicize it through word of mouth

The bakesale will
be on September 16th all day.
Maxine is coordinating it—we need to ask about getting tables in the
atrium, etc. David already has mugs
prepared and they look great. Check them
out in the lounge in the box behind the door.

coffee hours

The first edition
of the newsletter will be in September—we are going to have short bios on the
new students as well as a list of birthdays, publications, events, etc.

The first
professional workshop is on September 12th—the workshop is on
writing assignments and grading and will be taught by the campus writing
project. In October is the
Endnote/Procite workshop and one on Networking in November.

of our very own. We’ll see what happens.
