I.                    Report from GPSO—Bertie

 

v     Nothing from Bertie except the GPSO report

 

II.                 Publicity

a.       Website

                                                               i.      Link to GPSO insurance site, campus centers and institutes, Dawn’s PhD page, and IU page—Ginger

b.      Updating Bulletin Boards

                                                               i.      Pictures from student conference—Maxine

c.       Listserv

                                                               i.      Results of listserv census—Abby

 

v     Ginger hasn’t done anything on website

v     Maxine has the pictures—they need editing, then we can put them on the website

v     Ginger plans to completely update the website by the end of May

v     Welcome bulletin board for Fall

v     Listserv—Abby hasn’t done ES yet, but we think that the big push will be for the Fall and getting the new students

v     We should attach the links that Roger sends out—put them on the website

 

III.               Financial

a.       We’ve found the money!!! IU Foundation—Maxine

b.      Asking Roger for money—Abby

c.       Can we get money from the student groups people?—Maxine

d.      Bakesale in the Fall (Do we need to discuss this more now or wait until later in the summer?)

 

v     Our IU foundation account exits and we have $75 (although people tell us that we should have $200—Theresa, Jamie, etc)

v     We need to get a record of transactions and see if there are fees for inactive accounts

v     Maxine has the form—we need a letter from the Dean and our advisor, a statement of financial responsibility signed by the treasurer, and two copies of our constitution

v     Becky will give bylaws to Maxine

v     Maxine to approach the Dean to get letter

Ø      Rob suggested talking to Brad Thomas, Communications Office 318? 314?  He could probably do all this—and he’s staff, so he’s easier to track down

v     We’ve decided to get an SOA account, so we will close the foundation account

v     Rob will call the foundation and try to get a past history

v     Maxine will talk to Brad about becoming a co-signer on the SOA account

v     Assume that we will transfer to the SOA account unless Rob finds something really good in the IU Foundation account

v     Abby talked to Roger about the coffee hours, but didn’t ask for money—he seemed okay with it

v     Theresa swears that there was a set amount of money that students could get from student activity fees

v     Maxine to talk to Brad Thomas, or find out who the Masters student treasurer is (or an undergrad group), or make an appointment with an executive in their office

v     Becky to look through binder from Mete, there is also a binder from Theresa in our drawer—put minutes on website and in drawer

v     Talk about Bakesale in May—David has some mugs made already, Rob might make some canvasboard paintings, or what about postcards

v     Is there a time when alumni come?  There is a football picnic thing, but no one knows when it is—maybe homecoming weekend

v     Or the ASPS bingo night

 

IV.              SPEA Environment

a.       Drawer in the lounge with ASPS information

b.      How is room 312 coming along?

c.       Any word on hiring new professors?

d.      PhD carrols in SPEA library—Becky

 

v     Room 312—Rob will ask Chad, we don’t know what is going on

v     We hired Blasingame the economist

v     They’re keeping the dialogue open with the network guy

v     Becky hasn’t asked about the carrols yet

 

V.                 Ex-Comm Events

a.       SPEA PhD Conference

                                                               i.      Writing workshop—how’s it coming?—Abby

                                                             ii.      Next year’s student conference—brainstorming

b.      Social Activities

                                                               i.      BBQ at David’s house—May 9th

                                                             ii.      Social hours with food/coffee in lounge

 

v     Writing workshop—there are now 4 people, one dropped out

v     There will be two sessions of 3 hours each, it is going to be reconstructive and moving the papers toward publication

v     Less focus on content and more on the writing

v     Maxine talked to academic support people and they are willing

v     Send ideas for workshops to Abby—let’s make a calendar for next year of all the workshops that we are going to hold during the year

v     Workshop on grading papers

v     Abby to put together a schedule

v     Ideas for next year’s conference

Ø      Solicit panels—have students submit a whole panel

Ø      Soliciting within SPEA and outside of SPEA

Ø      Holding it on the Friday

Ø      Canceling the colloquia and having those students attend our conference—Roger, Workshop, ES

Ø      Committee—sending out an email to people, getting a separate committee?  Talk about this in May—get a date, possibly

Ø      Student awards

v     David’s BBQ May 9th, sometime in evening, put up a map in lounge, directions by email, ask Roger to tell the faculty and Phil too

v     Fall planning—social hours in lounge

v     Political science gets extra print quota

v     Rob is trying to get the old Masters printer put into the lounge, but it might take forever—we’re not sure if that would count against the print quota, John’s printer—he needs to install the drivers

v     Meet once in May and once in August

v     Wednesday, May 21st, Lunch meeting, 11:30am—email Bertie, Runcible Spoon on 6th Street
